WASHINGTON -- Chef, restauranteur and television star Art Smith preached a simple message at the Chefs Ball. "When you are cooking for people, there are no angry people, just hungry people."
Based on the ravenous crowd of 500, there appeared to be no angry people at Art and Soul on Saturday night.
Smith spoke to the crowd about the role the D.C. food community plays in the community. "What we're doing has nothing to do with politics. Food is peace. We can create change through food."
"Modern Family's" Jesse Tyler Ferguson, ?Top Chef All-Stars? finalist and Graffiato chef Mike Isabella and Illinois Gov. Pat Quinn (D) made appearances.
Food was prepared by Smith, Isabella, Erik Bruner-Yang of Toki Underground, Scott Drewno of The Source, Todd Gray of Equinox restaurant, Chef Rock Harper of D.C. Central Kitchen, and Chef Wes Morton of Art and Soul.
