Keeping up-to-date with current terminology and trends is extremely important to the new generation of home stagers and Realtors alike, we need to be able to effectively communicate with each other and our clients! Two of my favorite terms are Zoomer and Rightsizing they?re great words, very positive and up-beat. Zoomer magazine defines a zoomer? as? baby boomer with lots of ?zip? or energy while? the term rightsizing, is being used to describe the whole process of downsizing from a larger home to a smaller one.
Zoomers are on the move as far as real estate, some are investing in income properties or a vacation home outside the country while others are helping family members reach the goal of home ownership.? The majority of Zoomers are considering rightsizing their space to better suit their current needs but no matter what term we use it still means the same thing; the process of going through possessions and helping them determine what they need to keep, what is important to them, what items they want to give to specific people and what items they just need to get rid of.? It?s a huge job and if our clients have been in their current home for a number of years, the process of sorting through all of their belongings can seem overwhelming, particularly if their family no longer lives close by.
There are many ways a client can dispose of items they no longer want or need; they can give items to friends, family and neighbours, they can sell items through garage sales, consignment and estate sales, they can use online sites such as Craig?s list or EBay and they can donate items to charity. *
There will be items the client simply won?t have room for, which is where creativity and experience certainly comes in handy. We can suggest clients try scanning and saving years of photos electronically or, decreasing the number of items ( for example; try reducing that collection of bobble-heads to just their favorite one or two or, gather them all together and take a family photo of the gang that you can either frame or keep with your other stored photos.) We can come up with lots of helpful ways clients can reduce the stress of rightsizing and we have the time to work with clients on a one-on-one basis that, as a Realtor, you just can?t manage. We also have the industry connections to bring in specific, professional help when needed. While we are working with the client we will choose items that will be useful in the staging of the property for sale.
Once rightsizing is completed, clients will enjoy living an uncluttered life in a home where they can find things easily and where they are surrounded by the things that bring them joy and a happy client tells all of their friends and associates about what great service they experienced and how quickly their family home sold.
