* Take Action: Home Improvement for the Environment ? NC Central ...

Friends,

One of the best ways to reduce our communities? dependence on dirty-energy technologies is to give people the ability to simply use less energy in our homes ? less for light, heat, hot water, cooking, and all the things we do every day.

Sounds simple, right? But while several states are trying to make it easier for families to make their homes more efficient, the Federal Housing Finance Authority (FHFA) recently killed the national energy-efficient homes program.

Your family and your neighbors deserve the chance to make your homes more efficient and affordable. Take action now to help make energy-efficient home ownership a possibility for millions of Americans!

When families have the opportunity to live in energy-efficient homes, we all move one step closer to our goal of clean air and water.

Two years ago, FHFA derailed the Property Assessed Clean Energy (PACE) program, which allowed homeowners to pay a little extra property tax in exchange for energy upgrades that make their homes more efficient and keep their electricity and heating costs down.

Now, FHFA has been forced by the courts to take another look at the PACE program. We need to make sure they reinstate PACE for affordable energy-efficient homes.

FHFA has issued a new proposal on PACE and is only accepting public comments for one more week. This is your chance to bring back a common-sense way of making energy-efficient housing more affordable to families.

Tell FHFA to stop blocking the programs that can make clean-energy homes affordable in all our communities.

PACE doesn?t just help individual homeowners keep their utility bills under control. It reduces our communities? dependence on dirty energy like the coal-burning power plants that put soot into our air and mercury into our water. Every home that makes progress on energy efficiency brings us closer to our goal of clean air and water for our communities.

This is a simple, effective program to make our energy use cleaner and more efficient. It needs to be reinstated. Please urge FHFA to stop opposing PACE programs.

Thanks for all you do to protect the environment,
