Tot found after twister dies in hospital

By msnbc.com staff

Updated at 5:05 p.m. ET
The?14-month-old girl found in a field after Friday's tornadoes passed away after being taken off life support on Sunday, her grandparents told NBC News.

The grandparents and doctors had earlier decided to remove Angel Babcock from life support due to the severity of her injuries.

Angel was found alive about 150 yards from where her family's home had stood. Her parents, Joe and Moriah Babcock, died instantly; so too did her brother Jaydon, 2 years,?and sister Kendall, 2 months.

Her grandfather Jack Brough on Saturday?told the Louisville Courier-Journal that?"she?s had a lot of injuries to her head ...?I?m just asking everyone to pray for my granddaughter and for my family."

A neighbor said her boyfriend had tried to help the family leave their mobile home in New Pekin, Ind.,?for his larger one as the tornado bore down on Friday.

The boyfriend, Jason Miller, said he saw Angel's family lying face down in their hallway, holding hands and praying.

As the Friday storm that killed dozens dies down, the scale of the damage is hard to comprehend for those cleaning up debris. NBC's Tom Costello reports.

Before he could help them out, however, the tornado sucked him and the Babcocks out. Miller survived with several broken bones.

Brough said he waited out the storm at his home, and then headed to his daughter's to see how they were.

"As we got closer and closer, the whole area was flattened," he told the Courier-Journal. "I kept saying, ?Oh my God! Oh my God!? I was breathing so hard. I couldn?t see my daughter?s trailer for nothing. It was gone."

Brough was then told of a little boy found in a field and a baby being carried away. He later learned the two were his grandchildren and went to a local hospital to identify them. There he was told that his daughter and her boyfriend were also dead.?

'Total devastation' as cleanup begins
How to help tornado victims

"They wanted me to identify Moriah and Joe, but I just couldn?t do it," he said.?

"She was always happy and loved life,"?Brough said of his daughter. "Her entire life was about Joe and her children. She loved her kids; she was always with them."

Businesses in West Liberty were so damaged by Friday's storm, they will have to come down. NBC's Mike Bettes reports.

NBC News producers Alan Cohen and?Bob Vasilopoulos contributed to this report.

The Great Style of Old classic Cars ? irc2007.com

Once we say vintage cars, we usually think about the great cars and automobiles which were produced about 30 to 40 years back and maybe even more. Not a lot of them is seen these days, but there is still some considerable quantity of them which many car enthusiasts restore, maintain and treasure.

Being a proud owner of a vintage car though, in not for all. A person may know a lot about cars and the way to fix them, but that is not the main necessity, having money is. The reason being restoring a vintage car may cost a huge sum. One basis for this is that replacement parts can be quite hard to find. If ever, these parts may be expensive or they have to be fabricated and tailor made parts are expensive.

Also, locating a vintage car with its original components that?s still in good working condition may be nearly impossible. Most of these vintage cars have bodies that need extensive body work. It could be extremely hard to find pre fabricated parts of the body for vintage vehicles so car mechanics and the entire body fabricators need to do a lot of work.

Why do people love vintage cars? So why do they shell out huge amounts of money and spend plenty of their time restoring vintage cars? Mostly, the explanation for this is pride. Vintage cars are a fantastic addition to any car collection since these cars represent an era where automobiles in addition to their owners where regarded as the elite as just a number of persons could afford them.

Plus, the vintage cars which can be worthy to be restored are cars which make a significant impact in their era. These cars where the ones that raised the bar in the automobile industry and they should be restored to showcase what they?ve got offered to the industry and why they?ve made such an impact.

Many of these vintage cars are rarely used after they are restored. They are usually driven only every once in awhile and are usually presented in car shows. Owners have a tendency to avoid using them so much while they may be damaged or destroyed. Also, when the vintage car is a model that is highly significant, meaning lots of people have admired them and praised them, they can be much more expensive, especially when restored to their full glory.

While not many restorers have a tendency to part with their vintage car, there are some people who make a business from the jawhorse. Many auctions have recorded huge resale for vintage cars and also this has enticed a lot of people to earn money through it. Many though state that after selling the car, they have an inclination to feel that they have just parted with a significant part of their lives.

For collectors though, having a vintage car is a great supply of pride. Having a piece of automotive history in their garage allows them to feel as if they?re members of an exclusive club. While not all people would love to have a vintage car, for many who do, there is a certain aura of distinction. For these persons, their vintage car is surely an extension of themselves which is what, more than its high fair market price, makes vintage cars truly priceless.

Mayo researchers provide atomic view of a histone chaperone

ROCHESTER, Minn. -- Mayo Clinic researchers have gained insights into the function of a member of a family of specialized proteins called histone chaperones. Using nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy and X-ray crystallography, they have determined the 3-D structure and interactions of the histone chaperone Rtt106 down to the atomic details. The findings are published in the journal Nature.

"The interactions we described are important for gene silencing and the DNA damage response," says senior author Georges Mer, Ph.D., a Mayo Clinic structural biologist. "This is exciting because our newfound knowledge will help us better understand these fundamental cellular processes."

In cells, our DNA is part of a structure called chromatin, comprised of proteins, the majority called histones, which are wrapped with the DNA. Associated with the histones is another group of proteins called histone chaperones, which promote the proper assembly or disassembly of the chromatin during the times our DNA is replicated or repaired when damaged. Their dysfunction has been linked to cancer, aging and other diseases.

The Discovery

Before this Mayo study, scientists knew that the histone chaperone Rtt106 helped in the deposition of histones -- specifically, a complex of histones H3 and H4 -- onto the replicating DNA. They did not understand how Rtt106 does this, given that it does not possess any of the known requirements. Histone H3 is in a modified form where one of its amino acids, lysine 56, is acetylated. Rtt106 does not seem to have an acetylated lysine reader domain.

Mayo researchers discovered two novel domains in Rtt106 that take on this role. One, termed the homodimerization domain, allows two molecules of Rtt106 to be linked so they can cooperate in binding histones H3 and H4. The other, called the double PH domain, is responsible for sensing the acetylated lysine of H3 and further reinforces the interaction. The combined actions of the two domains of Rtt106 enable it to perform the chaperoning function efficiently and properly. This is the first time anyone has described this mode of specific association between a histone chaperone and a modified histone complex.

Other authors of the study are Dan Su, M.D., Ph.D.; Qi Hu, Ph.D.; Qing Li, Ph.D.; James Thompson, Ph.D.; Gaofeng Cui, Ph.D.; Ahmed Fazly, Ph.D.; Brian Davies, Ph.D.; Maria Victoria Botuyan, Ph.D.; and Zhiguo Zhang, Ph.D.; all of Mayo Clinic. The study was a collaborative effort between the groups of Dr. Mer and Dr. Zhang and was funded by the National Institutes of Health and Mayo Clinic.
